Twelfth Night or, What You Will

By: William Shakespeare

Tantrum Theater

Directed by: Shelley Delaney

Scenic Design: Hannah Carey

Lighting Design: Michael Lincoln

Sound Design: Megan Culley

Props: Grace Easterday

Technical Director: Jaxon Meadows

In Twelfth Night, there is much concern with fabrics and clothing; from Viola’s transition from herself into Cesario, to Malvolio’s yellow stockings and cross-gartering and the robing and bearding of Sir Topas. Other givens include Olivia’s court starts out in mourning and transitions away from it and Orsino’s court has a romanticized and relaxed feel.

We wanted our Illyria to be distinctive with a flavor New Orleans without being specific to New Orleans, yet specific to our cast.

I leaned into the coastal environment and flavored it with the freedom of dress that is seen at Burning Man and otherFestivals. I also embraced a contemporary look that incorporates a bit of anachronistic and fanciful elements with an ”or What you will” attitude.
